Sheridan Staff Gives Back this Holiday Season

Sheridan Staff Gives Back this Holiday Season
Posted on 12/17/2018
This holiday season, the Sheridan community is showing off their mustang pride in a variety of ways. Each year our staff finds small ways to give back, but this year the actions of gratitude have taken off!

Engaging our community partners year-round is a crucial part of the success of our students in ASD. During the holiday season we sometimes receive donations from these community partners, but this year, donations have been received that will provide gifts for over 100 students this holiday season. Special thank you to our amazing partners who included: Air Products, Valley Central Animal Hospital, First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, the Sheridan VIP (Parent/Teacher Group), Sheridan teaching staff and other private donors.

The holiday season is about more than gifts – during the winter season, many of our students in Allentown are in need of winter items to stay warm. This year, our guidance counselor Erica Simmons has coordinated a drive for winter coats / hats and gloves, but also a Friday food program that provides assistance to our families over the weekends. All of these winter and food items are generously donated to our school.

SHR2The Sheridan staff also came together to help the greater Allentown community thanks to the extra efforts of Sheridan parents (and everyone’s favorite  Alvin and Tiffany Wright. The Wright’s noticed that their church’s “Angel Tree” which contained the names of Allentown families in need had many left hanging as the holidays approached. Knowing the Sheridan spirit, Mr. Wright took 10 Angel Tree wish lists from his church and brought the names to Sheridan. The support of the staff who wanted to help those in the Allentown community was immediate! Teachers, support staff and school leadership worked together to fulfill the wish lists which plenty of time for holiday delivery.

We at Sheridan are so thankful for the contributions of our community partners but also the giving spirit of our staff this holiday season!
